A sick dolphin found on a Texas beach died after a crowd harassed and tried to "ride" it.
On Sunday, beachgoers found the sick dolphin on Quintana Beach, pushed it back out to sea, and tried "to swim with and ride the animal."
"This type of harassment causes unnecessary stress to wild dolphins, is dangerous to those who interact with them, and is illegal," the group said.
"The wound's shape, size, and characteristics suggest the dolphin was impaled while begging," NOAA said.
Since 2002, at least 27 dolphins have stranded with evidence of gunshots, arrows, or sharp object impalement.
