In College Baseball History, Tennessee's Ben Joyce Throws the Fastest Pitch

Tennessee righthander Ben Joyce has a 0.86 ERA and has struck out 38 batters in 19 outings out of the bullpen.

On Sunday, during a 5-3 win over Auburn, the junior pitcher hit the second-fastest shot in baseball history.

In the top of the eighth inning against Cole Foster, Joyce threw a 105.5 mph fastball, considered to be the fastest in college baseball history.

Joyce's fireball is the second-fastest recorded fastball in baseball history, trailing only Aroldis Chapman's 105.8 mph pitch against the San Diego Padres on Sept. 24, 2010.

Joyce threw four innings of relief, striking out six and allowing one hit, to earn Tennessee's 40th win of the season.

After the win, Joyce stated, “Getting to pitch on this team with these guys gives me a lot of confidence.”
