Police: 6 shot in Tennessee

Police in downtown Chattanooga, Tennessee, say a shooting exchange left at least six people wounded on Saturday night.

In the vicinity of 100 Cherry St., Chattanooga Police officers noticed "several groups exchanging gunfire and many persons leaving the area" at around 10:48 p.m. local time.

Our officers started aiding the casualties and bringing others to safety In the first few seconds after the gunfire started, they were able to apprehend at least one individual of interest.

"Several" gunshot victims were hospitalised, police added. Two were critically injured, authorities added. Most victims were adolescents and 20-somethings, authorities added.

According to a police spokeswoman, "We had huge groups of youths strolling about downtown on this day and we suspect the gunshot took place from inside that group."
