The Swimming Federation Trans athletes controversy

In November, the IOC presented its Framework on Fairness, Inclusion, and Non-Discrimination on Gender Identity and Sex Variations.

This paper emphasised the IOC's commitment to human rights and inclusiveness and asked sports governing bodies to create their own rules.

Sunday, FINA, which controls world elite swimming events, announced trans athlete rules.

Trans women competing at the top levels in swimming has been in the headlines this year after Lia Thomas's NCAA triumph.

The Times' Matthew Futterman says that FINA's rules "essentially banned transsexual women from international competition."

"Any athlete who satisfies the event's qualifying standards may participate regardless of sex, legal gender, or gender identity."
